WHY ME? I’VE DONE THIS FROM THE INSIDE
I spent 15 years in senior brand and marketing roles at Amazon, Audible and Disney, in teams where everything was urgent. When I launched Audible across Asia Pacific, I was handed targets everyone called impossible. I raised them by around 30% and hit them, because I stopped doing everything and did the few things that mattered, and we became the fastest-growing international Audible business in its first year. My CFO called it “ruthless prioritisation” (which I took as a compliment).
For the past seven years I’ve worked with more than 100 senior leaders on why saying no to the wrong work feels so risky, even for the people everyone relies on.
